International Veterinary Students' Association Sun, 28 Mar 2021 19:19:02 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Bioethicus Institute and International Association of Students of (IVSA) – United for Animal Health and Welfare Sun, 28 Mar 2021 18:30:14 +0000

After the recent launch of the International Platform of the Bioethicus Institute in May 2020, Bioethicus Institute and the International Association of Veterinary Students (IVSA; founded in 1953 with above 40,000 members) signed a collaboration in December 2020. The partnership aims to provide online courses to students and veterinarians. The courses bring different contents and integrative techniques to build a holistic approach to health. This strategic approach between the institutions aims to increase the professional training of many students and veterinarians worldwide.

By joining the missions of the IVSA (” … promoting the international application of veterinary skills, education and knowledge”) and Bioethicus (“Using knowledge at the service of life”), the cooperation agreement will facilitate the access for students by bringing cutting-edge knowledge with an integrative approach everywhere, initially in three languages: English, Spanish and Portuguese.

In a pandemic context, eLearning courses have taken on a strategic dimension for the training of professionals. In a world in constant transformation and with such rapid technological advances,
keeping informed and up-to-date has become a matter of survival that requires constant recycling and training. Bioethicus and IVSA seek to break the pandemic boundaries and bring cutting-edge knowledge to every part of the planet.

Based on Traditional Eastern Veterinary Medicine, the Bioethicus Institute since 2005, in addition to teaching Veterinary Acupuncture, and its variations such as Pharmacopuncture, Electroacupuncture, Moxa and Gold Implants, also promotes courses in Phytotherapy and Eastern Diet therapy. The courses are lectured by world’s renowned researchers.

In addition, Bioethicus also brings modern courses of efficient but little-known techniques. Ozoniotherapy is an example, which resurfaced with a robust scientific foundation, to prove its value in daily clinical life by the exceptional results in large and small animals.

Thermography is a newly launched technique that is revolutionizing the diagnosis of numerous pathologies. In addition to its wide application, it detects several clinical and subclinical signs that are difficult to observe.

The Courses of pain treatment in domestic animals shows the care that Bioethicus gives to animal welfare. An exclusive content, presented by one of the world’s leading animal pain specialists, responsible for validating most pain scales in numerous animal species, makes a completely integrative approach on the pathophysiology of pain, its recognition and pharmacological and integrative treatment in small and large animals. The course contains data generated by decades of research and clinical experience.

The newly launched, LASER therapy course in Portuguese is also a boom due to its immense therapeutic efficiency. The search for training the use of this technique has grown a lot, and it is now possible to
learn without having to leave your home.

In addition to the English and Spanish courses, there are more than 40 courses, several combos, and VETFLIX, the combo that covers all courses in the Portuguese the platform. All courses can be obtained with discounts from anywhere in the world. In addition to discount coupons and integrated content disclosure, the partnership also provides two online workshops to be taught by experts from the Bioethicus Institute. The collaboration between Bioethicus and IVSA is a union of force that seeks to bring the excellence of knowledge to a more significant number of veterinarians and ensure that our animals have the best possible treatment.

WFPHA Internship Thu, 11 Jun 2020 16:35:07 +0000 The World Federation of Public Health Associations offers unpaid internships in the International Office in Geneva, Switzerland.

WFPHA offers a unique environment for an internship for students in international health and development. Interns are given substantial responsibility for performing activities such as researching and writing articles for the newsletter, establishing contact with health and development NGOs around the world, planning international conferences, and fundraising. Each internship is structured to suit the needs and interests of the intern, such as working on an individual research assignment, as well as the requirements of WFPHA. Interns may have the opportunity to participate in the formulation of WFPHA policy resolutions or papers, depending on circumstances.

During the course of the internship, the intern will further develop his/her writing and research skills and become more familiar with the key issues and actors in international health and development. They will have extensive networking opportunities as WFPHA is an international NGO in official relations with WHO, and has extensive contacts with other organizations worldwide. No travel opportunities will be provided.

Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) Internship Thu, 11 Jun 2020 16:32:55 +0000 The position is open for all European veterinary students / recent graduates, with a preference for final years / recent graduates as they will be able to get most out of the internship.

The intern will allow all the day-to-day work of FVE such as following dedicated working groups on medicines or animal welfare, support us with communication (website, social media), preparation meetings and preparation dossiers. Basically, she/he will be a full member of our 5 person team. Depending on her/his interest, a specific dossier can also be chosen and followed. Some interns used this as part of their thesis. For example, previous interns worked on veterinarians in remote areas, health and safety of veterinarians, Q-fever, religious slaughter, welfare during animal transport, preventive veterinary visits, etc. We try to give the intern a good understanding of how Europe works, how European Union legislation is made and the different European legislation that covers the profession. We try to take our interns with us to meetings within the Commission, the European Parliament and meetings within the federation.

We offer 800€/month to cover travel and accommodation. The internship position is in the FVE office, but the intern will have to search for accommodation in Brussels. We can put a future intern in contact with previous interns for more information on accommodation and the internship.

A place is available from September 2020 or from January 2021. We ask interns to stay at least 3 months, 4-6 months is even better. Summer period is not good, as there are hardly any meetings during summer.

Applications will have to be done by sending a motivation letter and CV to Nancy De Briyne ( and will be open until the 15th of July 2020 for the September position and until the 15th of November for the January internship.

COVID-19 IVSA Announcement Mon, 16 Mar 2020 11:26:36 +0000

Dear members of IVSA,
as you are all well aware the world is dealing with a pandemic of a disease called ‘COVID-19’ right now. As veterinary professionals we have the ability and responsibility to acknowledge these public health threats and act on them to the best of our abilities, which at the moment means trying to keep the spread of the disease to a minimum.

This is why, starting now, we will be cancelling all international IVSA events (including exchanges) until at least May 31st. Regarding local events, we urge you to follow your local guidelines and also to follow the WHO guidelines to limit disease spread. We will keep our website up to date if the decision is made to extend this deadline, so please check that for future reference.
We know this pandemic has already impacted a lot of IVSA members and will probably impact a lot more in the time to come, and we believe we can keep the IVSA spirit alive and well, even if it has to be online instead of in person.
If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact any member of the Executive Committee.

Volunteers at WSAVA Congress 2018

The WSAVA World Congress is one of the biggest congresses in veterinary medicine and it is a great opportunity to receive lectures from some of the greatest international speakers on many topics (cardiology, oncology, behavior, one health, surgery, etc.). Over 2,500 participants from all over the world are expected to join the congress!

You will be expected to help out with various tasks but there will be more than enough time to enjoy the educational program and the social events in the evening. Some of the tasks include assisting with registration, handing out registration bags, counting delegates in the lecture rooms, providing speakers with water, etc.
We’ll make sure that everyone has enough time to enjoy the lectures as well. There will be a big group of student volunteers so it will be fun even while ‘working’. You would, however, have to pay for your own flight ticket/transportation, and accommodation is NOT included. We will still, however, try to help you find the cheapest and best accommodations in Toronto. This is a great opportunity to hear some state of the art lectures, network with vets from all over the world and meet new friends – and experience a city rich in culture, pride, and is one of the most beautiful cities on earth. Come expecting great things, and be ready to be inspired!
