Standing Committee on Veterinary Education

Veterinary education encompasses the core teaching and learning in classrooms and all factors affecting it directly or indirectly such as quality and quantity of study materials available, curriculum pattern and so on. The Standing Committee on Veterinary Education (SCoVE) has been established to improve the education of all veterinary students and professionals worldwide by providing varied educational resources, coming up with new and interesting ways of teaching and learning. SCoVE aims at elevating the overall standard of veterinary education worldwide and to provide opportunities for veterinary students to undertake education in important areas outside traditional veterinary training.

Projects

EDU+ Platform

The educational platform is an online collection of veterinary resources organized by topic and made available to veterinary students worldwide. The website contains links to web pages, audio-visual study materials, and applications on various subjects in the veterinary curriculum.

The platform also includes materials on non-veterinary disciplines (business and other vocational studies) and soft skills that are immensely beneficial to potential veterinarians and will help them thrive in their careers while in study and after graduation. There are clinical case reports on specific disease conditions and links to other exciting platforms, especially partners' domains.

VET(s) Talks

VET Talks are online veterinary lectures inspired by TED Talks and accessible to veterinary students worldwide. The lessons are recorded by outstanding speakers who students from IVSA member organizations nominate. The VET Talks are about all aspects of veterinary medicine and surgery, favoring neglected topics.

Veterinary medicine graduates record VET Talks videos (professors, lecturers, practicing vets. VET Talks are recorded according to the standards set out by SCoVE. .

Journal of Veterinary Education

The Journal of Veterinary Education (JVE) is aimed at providing students with in-depth information on various veterinary topics, helping students practice writing articles and sharing new ways of memorizing information. The journal, which will be expected to release first publication in spring 2020, will have at least two publications per year.

The journal is divided into three sections; the first section focuses on thematic educational articles, the second section contains veterinary artwork and the third section displays SCoVE Ambassador reports and activities, pictures and reports on educational activities conducted by Member Organisations.

SCoVE Surveys

The online surveys are created to analyse the factors affecting veterinary education directly or indirectly in veterinary faculties/colleges/universities worldwide.

In the last few years, SCoVE launched a lot of surveys. The New Generation of Learning, Health Risks for Veterinary Students in Training, Financial Burden of Veterinary School on Students, and Pandemic Veterinary Education and Emergency Online Learning.

SCoVE Essay Competition and Quizzes

The competition aims to engage students in current and burning issues in veterinary education. SCoVE Essay Competition is held at least twice each term, and the winners receive a certificate of recognition. At the same time, the best three essays will be published on the SCoVE EDU+ website.

SCoVE Workshops

SCoVE Workshops are practical tutorial guidelines that are designed on specific topics as comprehensive as possible. SCoVE workshops are targeted at a specific age category e. g. high school students, elementary school students, tertiary education students. SCoVE workshops are presented to the target category by SCoVE ambassadors.

 

Veterinary Career Map

The aim of the map is to help veterinary students by informing them about the variety of possible careers they can choose after graduation. It was put together with the help of SCoVE members and so it was made by vet students for vet students.

The Map was designed as an interactive presentation and enables you to choose a field of veterinary medicine you are interested in. Afterwards, the degree needed to work in the selected field and other info will be displayed.

SCoVE Webinar

The Webinar is an online educative session organized annually in collaboration with another educational body (organization, partner or student body) in order to enlighten students on new advancements in medical research as well as interesting and/or neglected topics in the medical world.

SCoVE Conference

The Conference will be a biennial event which brings veterinary education experts and students together to discuss the future of veterinary medicine as a whole and the inclusion of technology in the present and future of teaching and learning of veterinary medicine. The event focuses on specific area(s) each time and the present and future of the theme is explored at the conference.

SCoVE Ambassadors

A SCoVE Ambassador is an IVSA member who serves as a middleman between IVSA SCoVE and his/her faculty. SCoVE Ambassadors relay beneficial information on SCoVE projects and SCoVE partners to vet students in their campus. They achieve this by hanging posters, organizing programs (SCoVE workshop and other educational events), sharing information by email and social media, airing webinars and lecture videos and so on.

Secretary:

As SCoVE Secretary you will be the right hand of the chairman. You will work closely with the whole team and help the others with their projects.

Your personal responsibilities include:

  • Schedule Team Meetings

  • Take meeting minutes

  • Assisting the chairman and other team members in their tasks

  • Be part of the Social Media team and manage all Social Media Accounts of SCoVE

  • Assist with external relations

 

Event Manager (2x):

As SCoVE Event Manager you will be working on SCoVE Conference, Workshops and Webinars. 

Your personal responsibilities include:

  • Finding speakers for Webinars, Workshops and other SCoVE Events

  • Managing Webinars, Workshops and other SCoVE Events

  • Creating an Organizing Committee for SCoVE Conference

  • Managing event finances

  • SStaying in close contact and give all the needed support to the SCoVE Conference hosts

 

Research Team (4x):

As a SCoVE Research Team member, you will work on Vet Profession Map, Essay and Quiz Competition, Diagnostic Challenge, VetTalks and Courses.

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Being the responsible person/coordinator for one of the projects 

  • Help other Research team members with the projects they are responsible for

Policy Officer(2x):

As SCoVE Policy Officer you will work closely with the chairperson and the research team. 

Your personal responsibilities will include:

  • Survey preparation and analysis

  • Policy paper analysis and criticism

  • Partnering and meeting with key organizations

 

Publication Manager:

As SCoVE Publication Manager, you will be working closely with the SCoVE Online Manager on Vet(s) Talks, EDU+, Interviews, Vet Profession Map and online content in

 general. 

Your personal responsibilities will include: 

  • Checking the scientific validity of the contents we share

  • Making sure that the content we share is of high quality

  • Managing the SCoVE content for IVSA Journal

  • Managing the Interviews for VPM 

  • Finding new resources for EDU+

  • Creating Fact Cards for Social Media.

 

Online Manager:

As SCoVE Online Manager, you will be working closely with the SCoVE Publication Manager on Vet(s) Talks, EDU+, Interviews and online content in general. 

Your personal responsibilities will include: 

  • Deal with any bugs that can appear in the platforms we use 

  • Keeping all the information updated (specially in EDU+) 

  • Insuring the best hosts for the online content.

 

Graphics Manager (2x):

As SCoVE Graphics Manager, you will be working closely with all SCoVE teams.

You will be responsible for creating all the graphics needed for:

  • Social media posts

  • Projects (specially including IVSA Journal)

  • Certificates

  • Partnerships

 

Social Media Manager:

As SCoVE Social Media Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Creating posting schedules to share updated, consistent and relevant information of the committee efficiently 

  • Sharing various opportunities/recruitment posts, links, events, etc

  • Help committee members to visualise information to make it well delivered and more engaging 

  • Plan the aesthetics of the social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc) and manage all social media accounts

 

Ambassador Manager (2x):

As SCoVE Ambassador Manager, you will be responsible for the Ambassador Network. 

Your personal responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the open call for new SCoVE Ambassadors 

  • Managing the SCoVE Ambassador Network 

  • Supporting SCoVE Ambassadors with the projects they are working on

  • Analyzing the monthly Ambassador Reports

  • Organize meetings with SCoVE Ambassadors together with the Chairman 

  • Keep the Ambassadors Manual updated

 

Liaison Officer: 

AS SCoVE’s Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining communication between the regional teams and other standing committees/networks. Your

 personal responsibilities will include:

  • Being up to date with all SCoVE’s projects, campaigns and events

  • Communicate with other standing committees/networks and regional teams for collaborations 

  • Send content of the committee for the IVSA bulletin to IVSA Secretaries

  • Attend Regional meetings and provide Committee updates

 

External Relations Officer:

As SCoVE’s external relations manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining the relationships between SCoVE and its current partners/sponsors

  • Create new partnerships and sponsorships for SCoVE

  • Ensure the committee’s MOUs with its current partners/sponsors are up to date and that SCoVE is fulfilling their responsibilities
