Standing Committee on One Health

The Standing Committee on One Health (SCOH) aims to promote the importance of One Health.

The One Health approach recognises that the health of people, animals, and the environment are interdependent and cannot be addressed in isolation. Hence, it emphasises the need for cross-disciplinary collaboration to address shared health challenges and to promote sustainable long-term health outcomes. Adopting a One Health approach is crucial for addressing our planet's complex health challenges. By working together across disciplines and sectors, we can improve the health of people, animals, and the environment for future generations.

Some of the topics of interest of the SCOH are

  • Zoonotic and vector-borne diseases
  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR)
  • Food safety and food security
  • Sustainable farming
  • Climate change and health
  • Global health security

Our Mission

  1. Educate students worldwide about the importance of the One Health approach.
  2. Highlight the role of veterinarians in public health
  3. Promote transdisciplinary collaboration with other associations related to human and environmental health
  4. Providing a framework for conducting collaborative projects that address shared health challenges.
  5. Advocate for a sustainable, holistic health.

Our Projects

Social media campaigns

We aim to educate worldwide about topics relevant to public health. The best way to achieve this goal is to conduct social media campaigns that can reach a broad, global audience.

Some of the recurrences that we usually celebrate:

  • World Rabies Day (September 28th)
  • One Health Day (November 3rd)
  • World AMR Awareness Week (end of November)
  • World Tuberculosis Day (March 24th)
  • World Food Safety Day (June 7th)

Global AMR Youth Summit

The Global AMR Youth Summit is a three-day online event jointly organised with other student associations under the WHSA (World Health Student Alliance) and in collaboration with other international organisations. The event aims to spread knowledge about AMR, tackling the issue with a transdisciplinary, global approach.

AMR-MSP Platform

SCOH actively participates in the AMR-Multistakeholder Partnership Platform of the Quadripartite (FAO, UNEP, WHO, and WOAH). We contribute as an active promoter of better AMR and One Health education worldwide.

You can find further information about the platform here.

Ambassador Program

The Ambassador Program aims to promote One Health-related activities more comprehensively and locally. The ambassadors serve as a link between the Standing Committee and the National Member Organisations of IVSA, and their role is to promote One Health-related activities on a local level.
